How to reset Joomla 17 admin password?

If you cannot log into Joomla 1.7 Administration Panel, you can use your admin email to reset the password; if you forget your admin email also, you have to reset your admin password via phpmyadmin.

If you do not know your mysql user name and password, no problem, login your web hosting via ftp software, open configuration.php which is just under the root, $mosConfig_user and $mosConfig_password will be the user name and password.

With the mysql user name and password, login your mysql database via phpmyadmin. The default admin account ID of Joomla! is 62, and it’s usually with  jos_users. The password is scripted using MD5, for example,
admin will be scripted to 21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3  via MD5.

Save and exit phpmyadmin, and using your new passwords to login, and change the passwords right away.
